Want to turn down Chrome without changing your whole system volume? Here’s how to use Windows’ Volume Mixer to adjust it separately.

Want to turn Chrome down without affecting the rest of your computer’s sound? Windows lets you control app volume separately, and Chrome is one of the apps you can adjust.

How to Adjust Chrome’s Volume Only

  1. Click the speaker icon in your Windows taskbar.
  2. Select Volume mixer (on older versions of Windows, this may be called Open Volume Mixer).
  3. Find Google Chrome in the list of apps.
  4. Drag Chrome’s slider up or down to set its volume independently.

Quick Tips

  • This only works while Chrome is playing audio. If Chrome isn’t listed, open a tab that’s making sound first.
  • Each open program with audio gets its own slider, so you can balance Chrome against music apps, games, or calls at the same time.

Now you can keep Chrome’s volume exactly where you want it without touching your overall system sound.
