How to Check Your Chromebook’s BIOS/Firmware Version

Need your Chromebook’s BIOS or firmware version? Here’s how to check it in seconds using the built-in Crosh shell, no dev mode needed.

Need to know the firmware version your Chromebook is running? You can check it in seconds without any special setup.

How to Check the Firmware Version

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open the Crosh shell.
  2. Type version and press Enter.
  3. Look for the line listing your firmware (BIOS) version.

Quick Tips

  • You can also check your overall ChromeOS version from chrome://chrome/help, though it shows the OS version rather than the firmware version specifically.
  • Knowing your firmware version is mainly useful for troubleshooting hardware issues or when contacting support.

That’s all there is to it. No developer mode or extra tools needed to check your Chromebook’s firmware version.
