Install OneDrive or Similar Android Apps and Chrome OS will Automatically Link it to Files App

June 21, 2019 by Dinsan Francis | Updated: September 4, 2020 Leave a Comment

I tried at least give versions of that title and I am still not happy with it. So, here is the deal. There is a new Chrome OS Files app feature in Beta. If you install file sharing and NAS Android apps, Chrome OS will automatically add that to the Files app as a new location or drive that you can access and manage files.

RB who told me about this feature first on Twitter (sorry for the delay buddy!) noticed this first with the OneDrive app.

Later, RB send me a Reddit thread where this was actively being discussed. Turns out more users noticed this for apps like DS File (Synology) and Nextcloud.

Comments on the Reddit thread also suggests that this feature may still be a work-in-progress. You may not get the full functionality with all the storage apps, yet.

However, expect this feature to work seamlessly when it reaches the Stable version of Chrome OS channel.

Stay tuned for updates!
