Google Chrome has a new flag that hides the search URL in the omnibox. I couldn’t get this working on my Chromebook, but this seems to be working on my Android phone.
Name: Query in Omnibox
Description: Only display query terms in the when viewing a search results page. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android
When enabled, this hides the search string in the omnibox and shows only the keyword that you entered into Google.

This is a subtle change, but when I look at it, the new design is much better and cleaner. Reminds me of Chrome started hiding the http part of web addresses.
