The Camera app was never an important part of Chrome OS. Why would you want to take pictures with your laptop’s camera? Well, now that Chrome OS has moved up the ladder to a tablet operating system, I think we need a camera app that can do more.
Google has updated the official + built-in Camera app, giving it the ability to record videos. It always had the photos feature, complete with some filters that applied in real time. Now as a tablet OS, Chrome OS will have an official video recording option too.
I am not sure if I should consider this as the natural evolution of the camera app, or Google preparing Chrome OS more powerful tablets. Either way, this is a welcome addition.
The app will automatically update itself, just like Chrome OS. If you are curious, you can check out the latest version of the app here. Once you have the app open, switching to the Video mode is easy. Simply click the video camera icon, and you are ready to shoot videos!
By the way, you can install this app on MacOS and Windows computers too!
