Let me start by saying this, I have only very, very limited information on this. I am basically sharing a commit log that I found today. However, the text on this commit log is pretty straightforward. That is the reason why I decided I should share it.
[Chromecast] Add support for power-save mode
After no streams have been playing out audio for a few seconds, trigger
power-save mode. Note that paused streams do not count as playing out
for this purpose.
The bug associated with this change is private. That closes a door for additional information. I am also concerned about the “Audio” part. Is this only a part of a set of code changes for Chromecast and Chromecast Audio?
The only other piece of information that I could find was a Chromecast user asking for such a feature in the Chromecast forum. The Chromecast stays connected and powered on most of the time. This might make the device heat up, and the user was concerned about it.
I usually end posts about upcoming Chrome OS features saying that the feature will be available in few weeks. I cannot say anything like that with Chromecast. When was the last time we heard about a new Chromecast feature?
So, what do you think? Is this really an upcoming Chromecast feature, or am I just seeing things?
