If you are a Chromebook user, you would know the keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot. The Pixelbook comes with a couple of additional ways to take screenshots. This post explains all those methods.
1. Google Assistant – Using Voice
Yes! the Google Assistant. Simply say “Okay Google, take a screenshot” and the Pixelbook will take the screenshot for you. It will now prompt you to open the screenshot in any of the supported apps that you have installed. If you do not do this, this screenshot will not be stored. This works the same way on Android phones too. Screenshots will be saved only if you open it using an app. If not, it goes away after few seconds.
2. Google Assistant – Using Keyboard
Launch Google Assistant using the dedicated Assistant key on your Pixelbook. Now, simply type in “take a screenshot”. Pixelbook will now take a screenshot and ask you to open it in an image editor app. Similar to the voice command, the screenshot is not saved unless you do so using an app.
3. Using the Pixelbook Pen
Your Pixelbook Pen, if you have purchased this accessory, can help you take screenshots From the Pixelbook pen menu that appears on the drawer, select:
- Capture screen – to take a screenshot of the entire screen
- Capture region – to take a screenshot of an area of the screen.
4. Using Power + Volume Down Keys
When your Pixelbook is in tablet mode, you have one more way to take a screenshot. It took me a while to do this when I tried this for the first time. However, after taking a couple of screenshots, it went smooth.
Just like on any Android tablet or phone, you can use the Power + Volume key combination to take screenshots. This seems to be working only when you are in tablet mode.
5. From the Chrome Menu
If you are using Google Chrome browser, go to Settings (three dots on the top right corner) and go to More tools. Here, look for Take screenshot. This works as advertised. This is probably the least used method to take screenshot on Chromebooks and Pixelbooks.
6. Keyboard Shortcuts
Ah the Chrome OS Way. As a blogger, this is my favorite keyboard shortcut on my Chromebook. To take a screenshot of the entire screen, press Ctrl, and Window Switcher . To take screenshot of a specific area of the screen, press Ctrl+ Shift+ Window Switcher .
I think I have covered all the methods here. If you find more, drop me a comment!
PS: You can install apps and extensions to take screenshots I have not included them here.
