Google recently published a blog post detailing their efforts to make Chrome cleaner and safer. One of them was Hijacked settings detection and the other a simpler Chrome Cleanup feature. Looks like Google is preparing to give it a permanent page within Chrome Settings.
This commit showed up today in Chromium code:
Chrome Cleaner UI: Add new chrome://settings/cleanup page
This page will be used as both the new landing page for the Chrome
Cleanup prompt and for user-initiated cleanups.
For easier code review, I’m splitting this change in a few CLs:
– This one defines the new page, whose availability is controlled by a
– The next CLs will add additional card states, change the landing page
for the prompt, and add the new item to the Reset card.
This description itself does not give away much details, and the associated bug is private. However, it clearly talks about adding a new page called chrome://settings/cleanup. I am yet to find the second CL that the commit talks about. Now that this has been committed, we will most likely see this page in an upcoming Chrome Canary build.
If you are using Canary version of Chrome, keep looking for chrome://settings/cleanup. And when you find it, drop us a comment here!
