Here is a quick post to share two upcoming Chrome OS features. These are two minor changes, but I am sure you will find these two useful. I found these in internal code commits. So, as always, these changes may or may not make it to the Stable channel of Chrome OS.
Notification Per Screenshot
At present, Chrome OS shows a notification when you take a screenshot. The notification stays active for couple of seconds. If you take another screenshot before the first notification went away, the new notification replaces the old one.
The new notification design shows a preview of the screenshot. It also provides quick links to copy the image to clipboard, and also to annotate the image in Google Keep. Now, if you replace this notification each time the user takes a screenshot, the previous one will go away. The Chrome OS team wants to change this. They are working on a new feature that will show more individual notifications for each screenshot.
Create new notification per screenshot.
Previously, only one “Screenshot taken” notification was shown at one
time, and the last notification was removed when a new screenshot was
Recently, screenshot preview is added to the notification, and now it is
better to show multiple notifications so that a user can see multiple
screenshot preview in the notification center.
Wait for this feature to show up on your Chromebook soon!
Per-user Time Zone Preferences
This feature is currently available on the Canary channel of Chrome OS. However, I could not confirm that this is working yet. Well, I should say that I tried to test. It is not possible to travel to a different time zone just to test this flag, right!
The flag description says this:
Chrome OS system timezone preference is stored and handled for each user individually. #enable-per-user-timezone
Going with just this flag description, Chromebooks will soon be able to have separate time zone settings for each user. They won’t be limited to the owner’s time zone. I will have to wait for few more weeks before I can properly test this, but if anyone here get this working before that, do drop me a comment!
