Here is a quick post to share the news of a little but useful feature that is coming to the Chrome OS file manager, aka the Files app. There will soon be a “Recent” section / folder in the Files app showing your recent files from “among Downloads, Google Drive, and Media view.”
This feature has showed up as a code change request on Chromium repositories. It might take a while before it shows up in flesh, but you know we are in the business of bringing you Chrome and Chrome OS news before it happens, right?
Here is the code change request:
Add Recent folder on the Files app UI.
The new API (chrome.fileManagerPrivate.getRecentFiles) returns recently-modified
files among Downloads, Google Drive, and Media view.
This CL adds a new root “Recent” on the directory tree in Files app to access the
For the root of Recent folder, a new fake entry is introduced. The new fake entry
does not associated with any volumes, as it contains files from mixed volumes.
As a result, we allow EntryLocation not to have volumeInfo.
Look at the bug submitted as a feature request, and you will see that it goes back to July 2014. So, this is a feature that has been put off for a long time. It might take a few more weeks or may be couple of months before you see this on the Stable channel, but when you do, come back and say hi!
