Chrome OS gives you an easy way to clean up temporary Google Drive offline files. You’ll find the option under Google Drive settings, and it only takes a couple of clicks.
The Files app on your Chromebook has a Google Drive section. You can access all your Google Drive files from here. When you select a file, it downloads and opens. You also have the option to make files or folders available offline.
From time to time, you’ll want to clear out offline files you no longer need. Chromebooks don’t have a lot of local storage, after all.
So, here is how you do it:
- Go to Settings, then select System preferences and Google Drive.
- Click Clean up storage.
- Confirm if asked. Note that some files you’ve pinned to stay offline may remain available.
- Done!
Good to know: If your Chromebook is running low on storage, offline files can be removed automatically. And if you’ve disconnected Drive entirely, you’ll need to reconnect it before you can clear offline storage.
