Google has updated the iOS version YouTube app to let users control playback while casting from the app. You will no longer have to unlock the device and go to YouTube app to pause or stop videos while casting.
With this update, it is not just Chromecast that is getting lock screen playback controls, the app has added support for smart TVs and other devices. If you have an Apple Watch, you’ll now be able to access play, pause, prev, next and volume controls on your wearable, as well.
From the change log on YouTube app’s iOS page:
- Control videos from the lock screen while casting to Chromecast devices, smart TVs, game consoles, or any other living room devices with the YouTube app.
- Get Play/Pause, Prev/Next and volume controls on the lock screen and Control Center
- Access controls on your paired Apple Watch while casting
If you are on iOS, go ahead and try this out. While you are there, don’t forget to try the new QR Code scanning feature on Chrome too!
