Chromebooks are not officially available in China. If you have an already activated Chromebook, you will be able to use it, except for the blocked Google services and websites. However, activating a new Chromebook will be really difficult. Just like any other service with similar restrictions, Chinese companies are getting ready to fill this gap.
Chinese eCommerce giant Alibaba has been putting together a new Android powered OS to match the Chrome OS experience for Chinese customers. The name of this new OS is Yunos (It is also called Aliyun OS). HP and Alibaba are launching their first device with this new OS, the HP Yunos Book 10 G1.
Yunos Book 10 – Specs
- Intel Atom X5 Z8350 processor
- 2GB memory, 32GB eMMC memory
- 10. 1-inch 1280 X 800 resolution touch screen
- Notebook form the body thickness of 19.84mm
- Weight 589 grams

Yunos Book has a detachable form factor, making it possible to use as a tablet, or as a laptop. Similar to new Chromebooks, the Yunos Book also has a stylus. The success or failure of this operating system and device depends on how effectively they can differentiate them with Android tablets currently in the market.
Built-in Google services, Google Classroom and G Suite support are major attractions for Chrome OS and Chromebooks. Can Alibaba and HP provide viable alternatives for Chinese customers ?
