Typing Emoji on a Chromebook Just Got Easier

Emojis have become a part of our daily conversations online. Every statement is supported by an emoticon- to express an emotion and sometimes not to express it.

On a Chromebook, adding emojis was not that easy till now. Users had to resort to browser extensions and other websites to add a particular emoji they choose.

Not anymore, Chromebook users who love to add emojis in their texts can rejoice now.

To insert emoji into documents, emails, and chat sessions:

  1. Open your Chromebook’s on-screen keyboard.  (To get to the keyboard, go to Settings > Languages & Input)
  2. In the lower left corner, tap or click More .
  3. Tap or click Emoji .
  4. Tap or click the emoji or graphic you want to insert.

That’s it. You can choose your favorite emoji. Once you click on the input menu to get the emoji keyboard, it stays on screen until you dismiss it.

If you want to try this feature out on your Chromebook, make sure you are running the very latest Chrome OS Dev channel release and enable the following flag in the chrome://settings area:

chrome://flags/#enable-emoji-handwriting-voice-on-ime-menu

You will also get to see the handwriting canvas in the shelf. Tap or click Write  on the on-screen keyboard and you can write text with your fingertip, mouse, touchpad, or touchscreen stylus.

Check these options out on your Chromebook and let us know what you think.
