Facebook Adds Video Streaming Support to Chromecast and Apple TV

Many social networking platforms announced their recent plans on focusing on videos, like Twitter that came up with a new application that will offer free content on major streaming TV services. Facebook also joins the team with their recent announcement that videos can now be streamed through devices such as Google Chromecast and Apple TV. This is a welcome call for those who always wished they could stream videos from Facebook to the big screen as they are able to do with YouTube app on the smartphone or tablet.

You can already stream Facebook videos to Apple TV or Chromecast (and other Google Cast–enabled devices) from an iOS device or your web browser and soon you’ll be able to cast from Android devices to Chromecast as well.

“We’re focused on creating video experiences that people want, and we’ve heard that people want different options for how and where they watch videos that they discover on Facebook. To give you even more ways to watch, we’re excited to roll out the ability to stream videos from Facebook to your TV — through devices like Apple TV or Google Chromecast — so you have the option to enjoy your favorite videos on a bigger screen-“ mentioned Facebook in a recent announcement.

To watch a video from Facebook on your TV, you just need to:

  • Choose a video on your phone or desktop and press the TV symbol in the top right corner.
  • Select the device you want the video to stream to and watch it on your TV.

If you’re streaming a Facebook Live video to your TV, you can see real-time reactions and comments on the screen. You can also go back to your news feed and go through other updates while the video is playing on your Television. Check out this new way to watch videos on Facebook and let us know how you like it.

I have an iPad Air and a Chromecast. Occasionally I get what seems to be a buffering issue with the video stopping occasionally. This does not happen if I play on the iPad screen.
