So you know how you can visit the Google Play Store from your desktop, find an app, and install it to any of your Android devices without ever touching your phone?
Well, now you can do that, the other way-round with Chrome extensions. Sort of.
I mean you still can’t browse the Chrome Web Store on your phone yet but you CAN open direct links to specific extensions, tap a button and add that extension to your desktop Chrome devices.
Unfortunately, you can’t choose which desktops to add it to. When you tap the “Add to Desktop” button, it will add the extension to every desktop device you’re signed into.
Try it. I did it with this extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-to-google-drive/gmbmikajjgmnabiglmofipeabaddhgne?hl=en
Once I tapped the “Add to Desktop” button on my phone, the small 3 dot menu icon in Chrome on my Asus Chromebox turned orange, indicating that I had some kind of notification. I clicked on that menu icon, and saw a notification telling me that “Save to Drive has been added remotely”. I clicked on that notification, and was presented with the option to Enable the Extension. I did that, and the extension was enabled and the extension icon appeared next to all my other extension icons as you would expect.
Hopefully we’ll soon be able to browse the Chrome Web Store from our phones.
