Chrome OS Files App To Get “Share” and Other Context Menu Actions

The Files app on your Chromebooks and Chromboxes (and Chromebits) are going to get some more “actions” on the context menu (the menu that you see when you right click). The obvious ones will be “Share” and “Pin”.

Work has begun on this feature as per this bug. The description says: “Add some special actions for file systems, so they show up in Files app’s context menu.”

when you are on the Google Drive side of the Files app, you could be right clicking to say “Scan a new document”. If you are using Dropbox via the Files app, you could say “open the file on Dropbox.com” or “Share” and use it to share  the file to another app or as a URL. There could be many other possible use cases when developers get their hands on this shiny new feature.

The feature is still work-in-progress and as usual, all the disclaimers apply for this one as well. However, if everything goes right, we will this feature in coming weeks on Canary or Dev channel of Chrome OS.

Thanks Mark Dodsworth!
