We have had many people say “this is the year of Chromebooks” many times. However, Gartner predictions come with some strong credibility. So, this year could be the year of Chromebooks that we all were waiting for.

From the report:

Worldwide Chromebook* sales to end users is on pace to reach 7.3 million units in 2015, a 27 percent increase from 2014, according to Gartner, Inc. Education is the primary market for Chromebooks and represented 72 percent of the global Chromebook market in 2014.

The report notes that Chromebooks at Work has a lot of growing to do, but there are lots of efforts from Google in this frontier. Things are getting better in the consumer market too, but the report suggests that Google still has a lot of work to do there.

84 percent of Chromebooks were sold in North America in 2014, with the U.S. market the largest single market in 2014. Acer is leading the pack selling the highest number of Chromebooks, followed by Samsung and then HP.

2015 started with more affordable Chromebooks from a new set of OEMs, so we should expect some momentum there too. And the idea of keeping everything in the cloud and doing everything inside a browser is also gaining followers, which also should help Chrome OS.

Happy times ahead!
