The last time you heard about MTP support for Chromebooks is when they added the option to view and copy files from MTP file systems (read Android phones and more). Now, here is the next update in that department. Chrome OS is getting MTP write support.
A recent code commit talks about adding a flag for this feature. Here is it:
Add flag for MTP write support.
That’s all we have on the commit log, but here is the description from the bug tagged in this code change:
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Plug a new-ish Android phone into a Chromebook, unlock the screen if needed
2. See the phone show up in the ChromeOS file manager
3. Try to copy files to the phone
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Actual: Not sure, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work.
Expected: Should be able to copy files to the phone.
That’s pretty straight forward, plain English. No code. When this flag is ready, we will be able to copy files to and from Android phones and tablets. You will be able to do most of the things that you do on Windows computers. Think this timing is a coincidence?
Alright, I want to see some excitement now. You can use the comment form below. (Memes are welcome!)
