Archos announces Chromebook for France’s “Grand Digital for Schools Project”

Archos, the company that makes affordable Android phones and tablets has announced a new fleet of devices for schools in France. A 11.6″ Chromebook is in the offering too. The other devices include tablets with Android or Windows, and a 14″ Windows laptop.

These devices are part of the “Grand Digital for Schools Project”, which aims to equip 50,000 middle and high school students with tablets and computers by the end of 2015 and more than 1 million per year from 2016 onwards.

The Chromebook is powered by Intel – Quad Core 1.8 Ghz and will have 2GB RAM and a 64GB SDD. Archos promises 8 hours of battery life. The Chromebook is priced 250 € excl. tax (which is approximately $283.) We cannot call it “affordable” comparing with other education Chromebooks availble. Especially, if this price is without any “rugged’ features.

Anyways, welcome Archos, and all the best!
