Chromebook’s Media Player Can Now Cast Videos from Google Drive

September 13, 2014 by Dinsan Francis Leave a Comment

Here is an exciting Chromecast + Chromebook news. If you have the Google Cast extension installed, the media player app on your Chromebook will show a cast icon next to the video files in the Drive section of your Files app.

Here is the description from the commit:

Video Player: Enable cast feature by default

The branch point has passes so, this patch enables the feature again.

This patch is the revert of r289621.

I am yet to confirm two things here. One, are these videos going to be streamed directly from your Google Drive? And second, the commit description does not specify if the videos saved locally can be sent to Chromecast.

Once you have cast available for local media as well (not just tab casting) this feature will become awesome.

I’ll wait for François Beaufort to confirm all that!
