Popcorn Time Adds Chromecast Support

For those who do not need an introduction to what Popcorn Time is, the newest Alpha release has added Chromecast support. This build is highly experimental, so try it at your own risk. (Along with the other risks of using Popcorn Time, I don’t know much about that). You can download the latest alpha release here.

Alpha 4.3, the new release is currently available only for Windows. So no casting from your Chromebook or Android device for now.

What is Popcorn Time

Note: I am merely giving you a piece of news. Please review everything on your own before proceeding further.

Popcorn Time is a multi-platform, free, and open-source media player. The program is intended as a free alternative to subscription-based video streaming services such as Netflix. The program could streams pirated films directly from YTS and other torrent trackers if entered.

The program quickly received unexpectedly positive media attention, with some comparing it to Netflix due to its ease of use. Popcorn Time was abruptly taken down by its original developers on March 14, 2014, who said that they simply wanted to move away from the project rather than continually debate the legality of it. The Popcorn Time project was subsequently taken over by other developers.
