Chrome to get built-in ‘OK Google’ Hands-free Voice Search

We already know that the “Ok Google” hotword is coming to Chrome OS as part of the app launcher. But for Chrome, this was implimented as using an official extension.

It is changing… or rather.. getting better.

Google Chrome will soon get the “Ok Google” voice search command built-in. According to François Beaufort, the Chrome team has started working on this feature already. Once ready, users can enable this voice search from settings, he says:

Yes! The chromium team has just started to work on this feature. Once enabled in the Chrome Search Settings, Chrome would listen for you to say “Ok Google” and then send the sound of the next thing you say, plus a few seconds before, to Google. 

A few weeks and we will sart seeing this on Chrome developer channel. Stay tuned!
