Here is a new Chromebook feature that came with the latest dev channel release. You can make your Chromebook’s keyboard more windows like. They can work as function keys.
The Chromebook keyboard layout is different from windows computers. They have some web-friendly keys instead of function keys. This is supposed to be a nice feature, but if you want to change it, you can now.
One use case to enable this is to prevent top-row key events from either internal or external keyboards from being rewritten as media key (e.g. back, forward, brightness, etc.) events for instance.
Even you didn’t enable this feature, keep in mind that holding the <Search> key while pressing a top-row key will trigger the appropriate function key. For example, <Search> + ] is like pressing <F5>.
You can enable this under Keyboard settings, here:
One thing that I missed after enabling this feature was the keyboard shortcut to take screenshots!
