Acer’s Touchscreen Chromebook with 8GB RAM and Haswell is Coming in December for About $544

For many, this may be the Pixel 2. For many, this may be the mid range Chromebook that they have been waiting for. And for Acer, this is a shift from their existing strategy of being the maker of the most affordable Chromebooks.

Thanks to Fredrik Linnander of Online Partner  from Sweden, we have a spec sheet from Acer which details their plans for a new line of C720 Chromebooks with higher configurations and touch.

Confirming a few things that he shared recently about upcoming Chromebooks, he shared this specs sheet with me.

This is a list for Sweden and may not be the final deal for the rest of the world.

The last 4 Chromebooks listed in this list has touch. They come with 8 GB and 4 GB RAM options and 16 or 32 GB SSD variants. The last column, Street is the most interesting part of the story.

The price.

Touchscreen Chromebooks for $500!

The highest in that, 3490 translates to $544, roughly. And the lowest, with touch comes around $466. Since this is price in Sweden, after all the taxes and import duties, the actual US prices may be even lower.

2990 SEK, the price for the lower end touch Chromebook is the same price that Samsung sells their $249 ARM Chromebook in Sweden.

Production will start in November and these devices are expected to hit the market in December 2013, the holiday shopping season.

Chromebooks have already claimed half of the spots in Amazon’s top-seller-laptop charts. An affordable Haswell Chromebook with touchscreen can make this a lot more better for Chromebooks. And for Acer.

Celebration time ahead Chromies!

3490 SEK are 544 USD but things in Sweden are more expensive than in the US.

When the Samsung Cromebook costs 2990 SEK in Sweden and 249 USD in the US then this would mean 3490 SEK translates to just 291 USD.

I suppose the first model, at 2490 SEK, is the one at 249$ in the US. The top one could then cost 349$?
I’m just wondering if touch will work well on a chromebook given that the controls are so small in a browser compared to what they are on an Android or iOS tablet.

Is there any news when the new chromebox comes out? I need a couple more for my company.
