Free 100 GB Google Drive Space for Chromebook Users? (second generation)

We have seen Samsung and HTC giving away free Dropbox storage space. From what we see in the Chromium OS code, Google also will offer 100GB free Google Drive storage for new Chromebook/Chromebox users.

That saves you  $4.99 / Month!

François Beaufort looked up this piece of code from the Chromium source which says “Get 100 GB free with Google Drive”.

Will My Cr48 or First Generation Chromebook Get this?

Don’t think so. According to the code,  it’s only available for stumpy and lumpy. Stumpy and Lumpy are the latest Chrome OS devices released by Samsung, the Chromebook and Chromebox.

Free 100 GB Google Drive Space with Chromebooks

Is this a good attraction for you to buy a Chromebook? I’ve decided to get a Chromebook as soon as they release it here, but I will be an exception, because I will buy it anyway. I will need one to bring you more useful Chrome OS and Chromebook news.

But, if you were someone half-minded about buying one, is this offer good enough to make a positive decision?

    Wow! Very cool!

I wonder how they attach it considering that the chromebook is non-account specific by nature. Perhaps it is whichever account you sign in with first? Would the offer upgrade an existing account or is it just for new Google Drive users? Does it last forever or just a year or two like the cell subscription.

To be fair to early adopters, Google should do the right thing and extend this offer to current owners of chromebooks from Acer and Samsung. After all, we are among the best promoters and advocates of Google’s chrome os.

It definitely puts more weight behind the phrase “gets better over time” minus the fact the older version is not getting the upgrade. I have never been more confused about a piece of hardware than with this. It’s like … it’s soooo almost there!!!! ahhhh
