I’ve hacked Chrome’s bookmarks bar in to (mostly) icon only and it is great. I’ve been using this set up for a long time now and wrote a post about it in 2010.
Here is how my bookmarks bar looks like.
When Chrome for Android launched, I was looking for this feature on the mobile version as well. People are looking for this on iPhone version of Chrome as well.
We can not have a bookmarks bar built in to Chrome, but you can have a similar set up on your home screen, which is even more faster because you get to open the website without opening Chrome first. Get what I am saying? Here is how I have arranged some websites on a home screen. I can click on any of them to open the website, pretty fast. I dont need to open Chrome and then open it from my bookmarks.
Chrome on iPhone or iPad won’t be able to do this because of limitations from Apple. But android, being flexible as it is, gives you this control. So, here is how you do it.
Steps to Add A Chrome Bookmarks Bar to Android Home Screen
1. Open Chrome and touch the bookmarks sign, the Star.
2. Touch Desktop Boomarks or Mobile Bookmarks, wherever your bookmark is
3. Touch and hold the bookmark of your choice
4. Touch Add to Home Screen
5. And you are done!
6. Repeat this for your favorite websites and arrange them on your home screen beautifully.
