How to Make Your Own Google Chrome Theme In Two Steps

I never imagined making my own Google Chrome theme is this easy! Until I saw this Chrome Theme Creator app by Google. I am going to show you how you can create your own Google Chrome theme in just two simple steps. Let us get started.

My Chrome Theme is a Chrome App created by the Google Chrome team to help you make your own Google Chrome theme. It is simple and easy to use.

There are only two steps involved. A third one if you are interested in sharing the theme you created.

How To Create Your Own Chrome Theme

First step is to upload a nice image for your new theme to use. Second, add colors of your choice, and your are done. Let’s get to do it now.

Install the app from here.

Go to your new tab page and launch the new app

Click on Start Making Theme

Upload an image of your choice or use webcam to take one.  The app will upload the image and show you  a preview of how your new theme will look like.

You can click on “Adjust position” to make changes to how your image appears on the theme. Your options are

  • Fit to screen
  • Fill Screen
  • Tile Image
  • Custom

They all work similar to the options you get while changing wallpaper on your pc, except for custom. It lets you move your image and place it where you want it to appear. This of course depends on the size of your image uploaded.

At the bottom of this page, you have a slider with two options. Design Mode and Preview Mode. When you slide to the Preview Mode, it adds Chrome Web App icons to the theme and shows you how exactly your New Tab Page will look like with this new custom theme.

Click Continue to Step 2

Step 2 lets you change the color of the toolbar, new tab and background tab. You can either select a custom color for each one of them or click “I’m feeling lucky” to let the app choose colors for you, based on the image you have uploaded.

You can leave these three areas without applying custom colors. Your theme will use the default grey color when you do this. For some images at least, this will be the right choice.

Give a title to your theme and an optional description and click “Make My Theme”. Now apply your new theme and enjoy it! Don’t forget to share your new theme with your friends!

Do you know if there’s a setting or a way to keep Windows’ Aero Glass and just color Chrome’s “chrome”?

I tried this theme maker before, and it’s really good and easy to use, but I like the glass look of Windows.
