Linux

Dear Google Chrome Linux fans, here is a small tutorial on how to install Google Chrome on your latest Fedora operating system. Thanks Sijo, for sharing this with me.

First step:

Create a file /etc/yum.repos.d/google-chrome.repo with the contents below

[google-chrome]
name=google-chrome
baseurl=http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0

Install chrome : Go to command line and type

yum install google-chrome

That should install google chrome on your computer. I also found a video tutorial showing how to do this, in somewhat similar manner.

The last fedora version that I used was FC10, one year back. I changed to Ubuntu after that just for a change, Fedora is also a great linux distribution for those who wanted to do some serious Linux computing !

chrome news Google Chrome Linux Beta

Google Chrome Linux

I know, I am reporting this very late, for again, I cant miss this news, even though I am late. So, here it goes, if you are yet to read about this.

Google Chrome for Linux is finally ready for beta. Like the Windows version, it’s fast, secure, stable, simple, extensible, and embraces open standards like HTML5.

I have been using Google Chrome on Ubuntu, from the day one of the Development version release. It was fun, and recently I got flash and extensions working on it. So, beta release is not much of an excitement for me personally, but this marks another milestone in the Chrome’s Story chrome news Google Chrome Linux Beta

For those who waited for the release of Beta release, of Linux to try it, here is the download link.  Enjoy and come back to give feedback as comments !

Do not worry about the beta label on google products, ok ? they keep things on beta for a looooong time. So, start using Chrome for Linux today.

chrome news Get ready for the extensions game !!

Chrome Extensions

If you are a google chrome fan, you might have heard people making fun of your for praising google chrome because it had no extensions support. Now, you can laugh back at them. Extensions will be officially available to everyone very soon. What makes me think so ? Read on ..

Chrome team has been testing and developing plugins or extensions for a long time now. But even on the developer version of Google chrome it required you to add a line of code to the command line for launching chrome. This is no longer required. That means, Extensions support is turned on by default on all google chrome dev versions now.

What this means, to me

So, for someone like me, using google chrome dev version, the browser is extension read, and there is a good documentation on how to create extensions, if I want to code my own thing. There is only one thing missing, an official extensions gallery, like they have for themes. We can expect this too, very soon.

What this means, to you

If you are using the stable version of Google chrome,  this means, you will have all the awesomeness of google chrome extensions and themes very soon, probably on your next update. We have reasons to believe that this will happen along with the stable releases for Mac and Linux. So, there is a big day ahead, when all these things are rolled out, together …

Wait for a great news ….
