Post image for Google Chrome Browser Cloud Sync is Coming

Friends, its time to take our Google Chrome browser to the “clouds”. Making a step closer to the cloud-synced browser based Google Chrome os, Google announced a new feature for Google Chrome, ” Cloud Sync”. This feature will let you save your browsing data on google servers, and access it from any computer from anywhere in the world.

  • What is it ?
  • How do I use it ?
  • Is that helpful for me ?  …. read on for your answers

Cloud Computing : A Quick “Know How”

If you are really new to this, and was wondering what is ” clouds” and syncs, etc, let me first help you clear up this confusion. The simple way to understand cloud computing is, read clouds as servers, so, when we say, it’s on cloud computing, its really on a “server”.

Usually, when you create a new file, you save it on your computer. So, it gets stored on your computer’s harddrive. If you need to access it again, you must come to this computer.

But, on cloud computing, you save the file on a server. So, next time you need to access that file, you don’t really need to be on the same computer, you can access it from any computer, because it was saved on the “server”

What’s Google planning to Do now ?

Google is planning to offer you a cloud syncing service for Google Chrome browser. You can opt to save your browser data on Google’s servers, and access it from any other location, any computer, using your Google account. Don’t worry, I will explain it and make it even easier for you to understand.

First, let me tell you what is browser data. It includes your browsing history ( websites and pages you visited ), cookies ( small files browsers save to remember something you did on a website ), Your bookmarks etc.

Now imagine this. You use your computer at work during office hours, come back, and login from your home PC, now what if your browser remembers websites you visited when you were at office, whatever you bookmarked from there, etc ? What if this is possible with any other computer that you login from ? Now, that’s What Google Chrome going to offer you. It will save everything related to your browsing on their servers, and let you access it using your gmail account.

Initially, Google is planning to give this feature only for Bookmarks. Later, you will be able to carry your browsing history and cookies etc with you.

This feature will be available on Linux and Windows development versions later this month (this is not ready for Mac yet ). And guess what, I’ve got both linux and windows dev versions running on my laptop, that means, I can bring you more updates on this later this month !! So, stay tuned.

I am all excited about this .. are you ?
