Crossover

Yes, people, I’ve seen many many requests about google chrome for Mac. Now, if you guys wanna try Chrome for Mac ahead of the official release, you can try crossover chromium for Mac.

What is CrossOver Chromium

CrossOver Chromium is a Mac and Linux port of the open source Chromium web browser. CrossOver Chromium is available for download from CodeWeavers, free of charge. This is based on WINE software which lets Mac and Linux users run windows applications on their computers.

Some Facts

Even though it’s nice to experience Chrome browser on Mac before the official release, you should not use CrossOver Chromium as your primary browser, since it’s not the final product, and it’s not a native application. They used a Dev build of the actual chromium package to build this, thus is incomplete.

Finally, I’m using chromium on Ubuntu 9.04. Even though this is an alpha release, I’m happy that I can use my favorite browser on my favorite OS.

Installation was really really easy, thanks to this article.  ( Okay, Important note :  This is not crossover chromium, or google chrome running on WINE. This is the original Chromium build for Linux. )  If you are an Ubuntu fan, who wants to try Google Chrome on your favorite OS, before the official version is out, do check out that URL, its about 16MB download, and takes no additional step other than adding the software source, and then installing using the apt command.

But don’t get excited, this product is not ready yet. No flash, and that means no youtube or other videos or flash pages, no plugins, extensions, etc, and not 100% stable yet. Considering my experience with the Dev version for Windows however, its not too risky to install dev versions.

Would you like to test Chromium on Ubuntu ‘? Or, will you wait until the official release ? If you already tested this, do let me know your comments ! I will post my review very soon. Or, if you are  a Mac lover, check this out.
