Will This Help Chromebooks?

The growth of Chrome as a browser, will it help Google sell more Chromebooks? The main reason they retained the same UI and features on Chrome OS was to attain almost zero learning time for anyone who wants to use a Chromebook. Anyone who ever used the Chrome browser must be able to use Chromebooks without spending even a minute to figure out how to.

So, more people who knows how to use Chrome means more people who can use Chromebooks or may even like Chromebooks.

What do you think?

By just pressing the magic AI button, you get a simple menu, letting you literally switch between several OS running at the same time on the same machine on a single processor. Instant-play, you can take the most of each OS, which means in our case: our AIOS, Android, Ubuntu, and ChromiumOS. Best of all, you can share your documents between those side-by-side instances

In what shape and form, we do not know yet. But, that doesn’t stop us from imagining better things.

Chrome Mini for Android, for example!

Well, you can call it Chrome Mini or whatever you want, the question I am asking you here is, if they make one or modify the existing browser to be little Chromy, what features of Chrome would you like to see on this mobile browser? What type of integration would you prefer? I will tell you what I want to see, like it or hate it, let me know in comments, and add your points too!

Sync My Bookmarks, to Start With!

This will be one of the basic things that I would like to see on Chrome for Android, from the early versions of it. I should be able to bookmark something from my Chrome and get it synced to Chrome Mini seamlessly.

When that’s working, I can leave my PC and pickup my phone or tablet and access  the page that I was reading, with just bookmarking it. This will be useful when I move from phone to PC as well!

Give Me Speed!

Speed and simplicity is something we all like in Chrome. I would love to see the browser on Android becoming more powerful with Chrome powering it. Faster page loads and much more, that’ll be cool!

Chrome To Phone, Inbuilt

Chrome to Phone is a good extension/app. But we need an app installed on the phone, and then the extension on Chrome browser, for it to work. Can I get this feature without all that formality, please?

Now, what’s your feature request?

Two thoughts emerged from those comments were thought provoking. So, here is another post to discuss those two points.

Does Chrome Have Enough Market Share To Make Hard Decisions ?

On the blog post Google Chrome to Drop Support for H.264 Video acupunc asks the following question.

The problem is when novice users try and use Chrome and can’t play a video, back to IE they will go. Chrome doesn’t have a big enough market share to dictate anything at this time. YouTube on the other hand does.

First of all, thank you for this very intelligent comment ! I was imaging myself as a new user to Chrome and finding it hard to play videos on many websites. I will sure go back to another browser that supports these.

Google may be trying to push innovation to another direction with new technologies and leaving outdated plugins etc. But at the cost of new users ? Making usability of the browser take a cut ? If there is a percentage of websites using this video format and Chrome discontinues it before it can convince everyone to their new WebM video format ?

Does Chrome has enough market share to pull customers, websites and companies towards their direction and make choices for them ? Are we there yet ?

How Many Weeks Is Too Many For An Update

The second topic emerged from the discussions around the 6 weeks release schedule of  Google Chrome. We are getting updates regularly and frequently with this new plan. This is commendable in the world of browsers which update once a year or so.

However, maldar thinks that this brings new features as early as possible to users, and we don’t have to wait for one year for a next version with new features. Which is, really true.

But Emmet Brown has a different thought. “Since the numbers are really arbitrary, it really doesn’t matter. Although, I do like seeing a higher numbered version every six weeks. Even if it doesn’t actually mean anything, I still like the way Chrome 10 sounds.”

Sometimes it does sound true … right ? Have you ever felt disappointed after a update to Chrome, because there was nothing much for you in it, even though they had a few features added with that release ?

I am not the right person to answer this question because from the very early days of Chrome, I moved to Development build and has a different pace of getting updates. Â So, what do you think, if you are using Chrome stable version ?

Are you with maldar and believe that you need faster releases to get new updates as fast as possible or do you like the old 3 months cycle where you had major changes with every update, like Joshua Santos ?

Last Week, was the best one since I started Chromestory.com. No, I didn’t get an offer from Google saying they will buy this blog  I am happy because I got bunch of emails from few users here with new tips, suggestions, and I got a lot of comments for my posts too.

Thank you everyone !

and I have a BIG thank you to say to Maldar. One day he posted comment here on the about page, saying it will be good to have a faviocn added to the blog. I also thought it was cool, and after adding it ( I used the original google chrome logo ) , I sent him an email to let him know about this.

In his reply, he said,

You choose to have the google chome logo as your favicon. Not so wrong, but not so original.

My solution. I have created a favicon for your website. And, because I was not busy, I also created some kind of header for ChromeStory.

I couldn’t believe it ! I have a logo, favicon and a new header ! Few more tweaks, which he happily did for me, and the logo header and favicon were live on chromestory.com. He suggested some design changes as well !

Maldar is studying designing and web development at school, and that’s pretty cool ! Thanks Maldar ! Let’s wish him all the very best for his studies, and his future career.

Any comments or suggestions about the new look ? Drop me comments ! we will chat !

Now, to the Poll
