Google Music HTML5 Audio not Working in Chromium? Here is The Fix

Remember the post Switch To HTML5 for Better Google Music Experience on your Chromebook?

We were discussing about enabling HTML5 audio on Chrome and Chromebook for better experience on Google Music.

This feature may not work for those who use Chromium, the opensource version of Chrome. I know that menu users especially Ubuntu users have Chromium installed instead of Chrome.

This fix works on Ubuntu and hence should work on Debian too ( that’s my guess btw). Now, other linux distributions? I am sure we will see someone coming up with a modified version of this fix.

Okay, so here is the fix for Ubuntu. you need to replace the package chromium-codecs-ffmpegwith chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra by doing the following

sudo apt-get install chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra

Try this out and do let me know if it worked!

Now, a question to those who switched to HTML5 on Google Music, how did it go? Are you seeing any performance improvement? Battery life?
