It looks boring and ugly, but it looks simple and cool too!

I think it looks nice, and it’s nice to have a change. By the way, do you think Chrome stable will be updated today (8th) for Pwn2Own? It’s a bit before 11:00 in California (Google’s place), and there’s been no update yet. The Chrome blog says about an update, but does not say the build.

4 weeks and 5 days since v9 hit stable, so that was quick! This is obviously a Pwn2Own early release. Looking at it, they’ve made the sandbox stronger, but they have added more features (Crankshaft, chrome://settings and background web apps).

I doubt whether extensions will ever get that much permission. Anyway, you shouldn’t really be affected by it; how much do you actually see the logo in normal usage?

Yeah mee too, idk what’s wrong with it, I just like the old one better. Maybe those gradients between colors are the ugly thing about it IMO. Anyways I’m sticking with the Faenza icon for now :)

Yes, the colours on this one are dull, and between colours they’ve tried to put a gradient, which doesn’t work. The TinyPic one is good though.

In the other discussion is a much better and less ugly hi-res version.

I love the old one, in relation to (possible) new icon/logo…

Well, here at 8 or 9 months I might get used to it! :(

But why the developers of the Chromium project don’t make an effort to solve usability problems?

No, a shiny new logo to reinforce the image and want to always be the best in the world. You have to have more HUMILITY!

I don’t really think Chrome’s like that, you’re confused with Firefox. Just think about it though: all Google wants from this is for more people to use their search. Most people have Google as their default search engine, or navigate to google.com (unnecessarily) to search. They even got some free (I presume) advertising from Pet Plan. So that is not the concern. They just want more people using the web.

They’ve done that for a bit by publicising cloud computing (Docs, Gmail, Calendar and co.), but a while ago they realised that browsers could do with a shake up. And there you have Chrome, aiming for people to have a nicer experience when browsing. Also, they don’t just care about their own browser. All of the big browser news of late is exactly what Google need. Other browsers are being forced to become better and give a nicer experience.

It’s a brilliant plan, and it looks like it’s working. Just think how many times you’ve searched for “Firefox 4 release date” or “pwn2own”, or how many times you’ve done some browsing to find what’s on Chromestory and then gone on to search for something else on Google. Or just how many times you’ve done a bit of browsing because it’s nice.

By the way, sorry for going off topic. I thought someone would like my loosely-connected thoughts.

For some reason, and connected to my last post, Bill Gates seems to have gone totally mad. Could someone please explain to me why in the UK there is a Microsoft advert discussing the advantages of cloud computing? If anyone has seen it, you may also recognise that that rubbish ad does not mention anything that could not be done without cloud computing. For those who don’t know, they basically do a bit of photo editing on a touch screen computer.

Oh, I get it! Microsoft are sending out this misinformation so that we think cloud computing is a needless and terrible system, thus more reliance on Office. So, I’ve answered my own question. Rant over.
