google chrome os Flash For Chrome OS Is Still Work In Progress

If you were lucky enough to get a free Chrome OS Notebook CR48, world’s first, you might have noticed that Flash on Chrome OS sucks, at least for now. But, Adobe has an answer for you. They are working on the built in flash on Chrome OS to improve its performance.

Adobe agrees that flash is not up to the mark on the Chrome OS Notebook, which is ok considering Chrome OS is not yet on a consumer product, but they promises that things are going to improve soon. Here is the meat from Adobe’s blog post.

In terms of Chrome notebooks specifically, as with many aspects of the device, Flash Player 10.1 support remains a work in progress. Video performance in particular is the primary area for improvement and we are actively working with the engineers at Google to address this. Enabling video acceleration will deliver a more seamless experience on these devices. Because Flash Player is integrated directly into Chrome Notebooks, users will automatically benefit from the latest features and improvements as new versions of the software are pushed out.

I hope they actually improve Flash for Linux, not only for Chrome OS.

Finally, I figured out that you can enable “click-to-play” in Chrome OS, just as you would in Chrome. It’s a simple way to keep all of those those ads from auto-loading.

I’ve got the details in my blog if you haven’t done it before:

I know this is a little off-topic, but what comments service do you use? I love it, and want to use it for my own blog.

If you want to use it, you would need to switch over to Wordpress. This is a standard Wordpress comment platform that comes with all Wordpress theme.
