Latest Chrome Dev version has added a new layer of security to your data saved on Google servers if you have decided to sync your bookmarks, apps, themes etc on Chrome.
chrome sync encryption
If you are worried of Google (or others) getting access to your online activities and data, the latest Chrome dev release syncs data with a passphrase.
How to Enable Passphrase on Sync
This is enabled from the same place where you set up sync. You will have a new tab called “Encryption” for this feature.
Click on Options
Go to the Personal Stuff tab
Click Customize on the sync options
Go to “Encryption”
Once you set it, nobody can sync your data to another instance of Chrome without your passphrase, and Google itself will supposedly be unable to grab it, because the company states the passphrase is stored encrypted on their servers, too.
This feature is currently available on the development version. We will soon have this on the stable version too. Stay tuned !
thanks lifehacker !
