But why is the ChromeStory webapp in a zip file? Shouldn’t a webapp be in .crx format?

chrome story July 17, 2010 at 10:49 pm

I used the chromestory_app folder format same as default apps loaded with google chrome …

Which does not answer my question at all!

Your “About” page to download the webapp is a link to:
http://chromestory.com/chromestory_app.zip

Why is it a ZIP file? Shouldn’t a webapp be in .crx format?

please unzip the folder and you will see the chromestory_app folder. Use the method I’ve mentioned in a post here, on loading an app using the developer mode, “load unpacked extension”

Why would I want to unzip and use developer mode to “load unpacked extension” ? Is this a webapp or not?

That’s not how webapps load. You either click the .CRX link and it automatically installs into Chrome (if the hosting website has the correct MIME types configured) or you download the .CRX and drag it into Chrome to install. No unzipping is required and in fact no zip files are required at all.

Again this is for webapps, correct? Definitely do NOT follow that incorrect post about using “load unpacked extension”.
