Unified Menu on Google Chrome Soon ?

by Dinu

The page menu is something we rarely use on Google Chrome. Most of the functions there have keyboard shortcuts. An average user may not even notice that menu icon there. Google Chrome developers are most likely to move it to the main menu of Chrome, and thus give us only one menu icon for everything.

chrome news Unified Menu on Google Chrome Soon ?

This feature is currently being developed. This is probably a small change, but let me add my vote to this up coming feature. Now, its your turn ! Do you want this feature ?

I really don’t think the page menu is needed, especially on a mac because you already have the menu bar up top. I just get confused between where the things I want are; the page or tool menu.

so, we have one more vote for this feature :)

I like the minimalistic interface, so every icon that dissapeared is welcome. But, If I look to all the options in the two menu’s, I see a total of 25 different options. That’s to much for 1 menu. So, just remove some options or make 2 menu’s like now.
Or make a submenu in the Tools menu to this section.

sub menu sounds like a better idea, if the single menu comes up like 25 or more ! :)

Totally agree it should be integrated into one menu. Hope this does happen, to continue the minimalist look.

If thats the end result then I hate it, where’d all the other options go?
If Im expected to use keyboard shortcuts Ill be peeved, I cant stand keyboard shortcuts.
I dont see whats wrong with the way it is now, it makes sense.

Another option is to move the page menu to each tab. Now you can Right-Click on each tab. It seems logical to move the options to that place.

I see here some people who not think about the new feature. Just say yes or no or why it is good. It is good to go for more minimalistic things. But their are some footnotes here.

Let’s discuss about this. Not just say yes or no.

chrome story June 15, 2010 at 4:54 pm

that will make the tab UI confusing ? what you think ?

maldar June 15, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Why exacly?
Now, you have also options when Right-Click a tab. So, their just came some more options. But, what I say before. Not creating to much options in a menu. That’s just the big problem.

PAEz June 15, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Because right now the only entries in that menu are to do with Tabs (except maybe reload which could be considered a page action).
I still think this is just trying to minimize for the sake of it and only reduces accessibility as you either have to put those other options some where else or only use keyboard shortcuts (and as I said, I dont like them. I use to many apps to have to remember all their god dam shortcuts). I dont see what the point is trying to get it to one icon? Is two really to many?
