@peter hoeg: yeah that’s the trick. it also can combined with this ALT+ENTER tip too. so you just press ALT+D to go to address bar, typing the dotcom domain name such as google, yahoo or facebook then press ALT+CTRL+ENTER. Yeeeha, it will be opened on the new tab including the dot com too. Great!

Another option is CTRL-T (to open a new tab), ALT+D (or CTRL-L) to go to the address line, type “yahoo” (without quotes) in the address bar and hit CTRL+Enter to automatically turn “yahoo” into “www.yahoo.com”.

Wanting to know how to do this as well. What amir means is, how can we make it the default behavior to always open addresses in a new tab without having to do a key combo or some other nonsense. TabMixPlus is a popular addon for firefox that allows you to set what things are automatically opened in a new tab as well as many other things.

this is good. i face this problem lotts of time and than have to do a copy paste. but this is surely nice shortcut
